Sewage? The solution

The discharge of raw sewage into the sea can create a health hazard. Sewage can also lead to oxygen depletion and can be an obvious visual pollution in coastal areas – a major problem for countries with tourist industries.

The main sources of human-produced sewage are land-based – such as municipal sewers or treatment plants. However, the discharge of sewage into the sea from ships also contributes to marine pollution.

Therefore, the regulations in Annex IV of MARPOL prohibit the discharge of sewage into the sea within a specified distance of the nearest land, unless the ships have in operation an approved sewage treatment system.

Our Sewage treatment system are designed for the treatment and removal of bacterial pollution through an oxide/reduction process and to drastically reduce TSS, BOD5, COD, turbidity and the organic and physical pollutants in waste water produced on boat thanks to a fine purification system.

The treated wastewater produced by the plant, comply with the international resolution of “Marpol” environmental rules, which regulates the discharge of treated wastewater into the sea. A concrete solution to eliminate the need for large holding tanks and the use of shore pump-out stations. Blue Sea by Selmar is certified according to the latest IMO MARPOL Res. MEPC. 227 (64). It’s also in compliance with MED 2014/90/EU.

The BLUE SEA PLUS system is a new-generation waste water purifier capable of treating from 2500 to 22000 liters a day. It is based on the principle of “chemical oxidation”. Beside the advanced oxidation-reduction process there are other stage and units which complete the plant as: sterilization units (primary and secondary UV sterilization), oxygenation unit, flotation and cleaning unit. Thanks to this completely automatic, technologically advanced system, equipped with a special chemical/physical laboratory, the waste water is purified, triturated, sterilized, all in accordance to the enforced norms regarding the discharge of waste water into the sea. It’s easy to install and to use, and it needs a limited maintenance.
